Bill is married to Martha Davis of Memphis, Tennessee. Bill and Martha have 3 sons and 8 grandchildren. Blake lives in McAllen, Bryan and Kimberly make their home in Lubbock, Texas with grandchildren, Beau, Stone, Walker, Major and Knox. Stephen and Kerrin reside in McAllen and their children are Sailor, and the twins, Whitley and Graham.
Bill was born into a preacher's home in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a boy he lived in Little Rock, New Orleans, Louisiana and Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from high school in Memphis and entered Baylor University on a football scholarship, earning a BBA degree in 1964.
Upon his call to preach, he enrolled in Southwestern Baptist Seminary where he received his theological degree. While in the seminary he pastored the North Hopkins Baptist Church at Sulphur Springs, Texas.
After seminary, Dr. Sutton served as associate pastor of the Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. His first full time pastorate was in Orlando, Florida at the First Baptist Church of Central Florida. He went back to his native state to the Windsor Park Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas where he followed the late Dr. J. Harold Smith. In 1986 Bill became pastor of the First Baptist Church of McAllen, Texas where he served for 21 years until retirement in 2008.
In April of 2011 Dr. Sutton was called as Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. He led tha church to relocate to their new location on Freddy Gonzalez Rd. in North Mcallen in 2014. In 2016 a new education building was erected.
He was honored to serve on the International Mission Board for 18 years serving as chairman in 1998-2000. He served as president of the Arkansas Pastors Conference and vice president of the Florida Baptist Pastors Conference. In addition, he was vice-president of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention.
